Intro

Noosa Heads is often recognised as a popular playground for the rich and famous but also draws people from all walks. It’s an area that flourishes with abundant wildlife thanks to the various natural environments which surround it including bush, rainforests, wetlands, oceans and river systems.

It’s an easy 2 hour drive north of Brisbane up the M1 and is nestled at the northern end of the stunning Sunshine Coast Region of Queensland. From M1, take the State Route 6 exit and follow the signs to Tewantin and onto Noosa Heads.

We recommend that for newbies to the area a great place to paddle is the river canals. There is loads to see including some stunning real estate but it’s also easy to find somewhere with protected conditions nearby. This paddle location is generally suitable for all levels providing that tides and wind are taken into consideration. The wind can get quite strong, particularly in Spring and Summer so it’s definitely recommended to be aware of the tides and weather and plan your paddle accordingly.

Head up river to the left approximately 2kms until you can see the vehicle bridge of Noosa Parade. Turn around and circle back down river. On the way back enjoy ducking into the various short canals to admire the palatial homes along the edges with jetties and luxury boats. If you’re feeling a little more adventurous, circle around the island that is Witta Circuit on your way back to the park. Be aware of other water vessels around this area as it’s a common route for boats heading out onto the main part of Noosa River.

If you haven’t been to Noosa Heads it’s well worth a look to explore on water and off. Of course don’t forget to also take a walk through the Noosa National Park and take in the blue waters and pandanus palms along the coastal escarpment.
