Buttermere is situated in a popular walking area, but you will probably have the lake to yourself. If some peace and quiet in an area of outstanding natural beauty appeal to you, pay a visit.
Many people say Buttermere is the most beautiful lake in the entire Lake District. If you spend a few days here, bring your walking boots and explore the exquisite surrounding countryside. If you only have a few hours to spare, have a walk around the lake, after you’ve paddled round it of course!
The start of the Spit to Manly paddle is a great SUP Sydney location for any paddling ability. The sheltered bays before you reach Grotto point provide calm water to get your balance and you don't need to venture far from the shore to feel like you are in your own little paradise. Our favourite spot along the route is Castle Rock beach. Accessible only via water or a hidden rocky track its golden sands and singing birds will entice you to make that paddle break a little bit longer.
The paddle on to Manly is suitable for experienced paddlers only and you should wear a life jacket or personal flotation device. We recommend the new Red Original PFD.
Limited ticket parking is available at Spit bridge however the majority of bus routes stop here. If you are unable to find a space or want a more sheltered paddle we recommend going further along the route to Clontarf Reserve. Here you will find a large ticketed car park or free street parking.
If on the city side of Spit bridge launch from Sydney Harbour Kayaks. Alternatively you can launch where the famous Spit to Manly walk starts by following the steps underneath the bridge.
