Human Rights Commitment

Doing business responsibly means respecting the rights and dignity of everyone our business touches.

1. Why this matters

At Red Equipment, doing business responsibly means respecting the rights and dignity of everyone our business touches. This policy sets out how we aim to identify, prevent and address negative human rights impacts across our own operations, our supply chain and our wider value chain.

Our approach is informed by internationally recognised human rights standards, including the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. It reflects our wider commitment to taking steps to be more responsible: being honest about where we can improve, acting on what we learn and making meaningful progress over time.

2. Who and what this policy covers

This policy applies to:

  • everyone working for or on behalf of Red Equipment, including employees, officers, members of our governing bodies, contractors, agency workers and temporary staff;
  • subsidiaries and joint ventures where Red Equipment has operational control; and
  • the way our operations, products and services may affect workers, customers and communities, directly or indirectly.

We expect our suppliers, manufacturers, logistics partners, service providers and other business partners to respect internationally recognised human rights and to work with us on continuous improvement.

3. Our commitments

3.1 Respecting internationally recognised human rights

We are guided by:

the International Bill of Human Rights, comprising the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights;

the International Labour Organization Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work, including freedom of association and collective bargaining, the elimination of forced labour and child labour, non-discrimination, and a safe and healthy working environment; and

the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.

3.2 Understanding and managing risk

We take a risk-based approach to human rights due diligence across our operations and value chain. As our business and the information available to us develop, we work to:

identify and assess actual or potential negative human rights impacts;

prevent or reduce risks where we may cause, contribute to or be directly linked to harm;

track whether our actions are effective; and

communicate relevant progress openly and accurately.

3.3 Putting things right

Where we identify that Red Equipment has caused or contributed to an adverse human rights impact, we will seek to put things right or cooperate in appropriate remediation. Where an impact is directly linked to us through a business relationship, we will use our influence, where reasonable, to encourage appropriate action.

We want people to be able to raise concerns safely and without fear of retaliation. We will maintain or participate in appropriate grievance channels and aim to handle concerns fairly, sensitively and promptly.

4. How we put this policy into practice

Responsibility for implementing this policy sits with the leadership team, supported by relevant teams across people, operations, product, procurement and supply chain.

Our practical steps include:

  • considering human rights in risk management, procurement and supplier decisions;
  • reviewing risks as our operations, products and supply chain change;
  • working with suppliers and other partners to understand concerns and support improvement;
  • providing guidance and training where it is relevant to a person’s role;
  • engaging with workers, suppliers, communities and other stakeholders where their insight can improve our decisions; and
  • keeping clear routes for people to raise concerns confidentially.

We focus first on areas where the risk to people is greatest, recognising that better information and stronger relationships help us make better decisions.

5. Speaking up

Questions or concerns about human rights and our business can be sent to team@red-equipment.co.uk or raised through our stakeholder grievance procedure. Concerns may be raised without fear of retaliation. We will treat reports sensitively and take appropriate action.

6. Review, transparency and continuous improvement

This policy is published on our website and shared with employees, suppliers and other relevant stakeholders. It is reviewed at least annually, and sooner where material changes in our operations, legal requirements or stakeholder expectations make this necessary.

Responsibility for coordinating the review sits with the leadership team. Any substantive updates will be published openly.

Respecting human rights is an ongoing responsibility. We know we will not have every answer from day one, so we will keep learning, strengthening our approach and being open about both our progress and the areas where more work is needed.
