Rowcroft Hospice supports adults living with life-limiting illnesses in South Devon. They are a charity, and the vast majority of their funding comes from the incredible generosity of the local community as Alison Upton, Community Fundraising Manager at Rowcroft Hospice explains...
“Following the success of last year’s inaugural SUP event, we’re running SUP Your Way again this September to make the most of the booming trend in paddle boarding! We’re encouraging everyone to join in and have a go while raising vital money for the hospice at the same time. People can choose when, how and where they paddle.
It can be a chance to get together with friends, have a fun family day out, or enjoy a peaceful paddle with someone special. You might like to SUP at dawn taking a flask of coffee and a croissant; or take a picnic and make a day of it. That’s the beauty of this event: you do it your way! t’s a fantastic chance for people to support the hospice while enjoying a new challenge that makes the most of our stunning seascapes and rivers. What's not to love?!”
There are so many inspirational stories from people within the community raising incredible amounts of funds for Rowcroft, Hospice taking on some epic challenges.
“Last year, people did all sorts of wacky things to raise money for Rowcroft during lockdown. One chap hopped 2.6 miles; one ran a marathon around his back garden and one lady did 100 burpees a day. People shaved their heads, sold plants and made face masks. One chap walked from Big Ben in London to “Little Ben” in Torquay. He did this unsupported and did not take any supplies or book anywhere to stay – just relying on the general public to help him. It worked and he raised over £28,000 for Rowcroft in memory of his dad! All of the money raised enabled Rowcroft to continue supporting patients and their families.” - Alison Upton, Community Fundraising Manager at Rowcroft Hospice.
